Powerful Voices
October 17, 2019 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
The Powerful Voices and Conversations course is based on NPR’s StoryCorps series. In the course, students will learn the power of sharing their stories-and listening to others’ stories. They will listen to/view/read selected StoryCorps interviews and discuss elements of each. Students will practice interviewing and listening skills and work toward conducting their own interviews first with peers and then with family and/or community members. The course will culminate in the students’ final interviews of current or retired police officers.
The course will be taught by two Saint Anselm College students who are involved in the Access Academy program, which is an academic, after-school program for underrepresented high school students (e.g., immigrant, refugee, first generation, low-income, etc.). The Access Academy program culminates in a showcase event on the Saint Anselm campus; MPAL students will be invited to attend and present along with their peers who took courses in the on-campus Access Academy program.
Participants attending one of the Manchester public high schools can earn 1/2 credit of English.
